Parade
About
"Treasure the Memories" is the theme for this year's Iron County Fair and parade, and pirates and everything buccaneer-ish are at the center of it all! Keep a sharp eye and your spyglass at the ready, because you just might see a famous pirate or two wandering the parade route... Come early to get your favorite shady spot so you don't miss the floats, beauty queens, horses, old-fashioned cars, marching bands, dancers, and everything else that makes Iron County Fair's Labor Day Parade one of the best doggone cavalcades this side of the Caribbean!
If you are interested in participating in the parade, fill out the online form and be sure to add a brief description of your entry by Wednesday, August 28, 2024, to ensure correct placement in the parade line-up.
We encourage entries to follow the theme to compete for prize money in each category. Feel free to interpret the theme "Treasure the Memories" however you'd like in your parade entry -- treasure, memories, pirates, all of the above!
Grand Marshal - Frank Nichols
Frank W. Nichols arrived in Cedar City, Utah in 1964 after hitchhiking cross country from Manhattan, Kansas---having recently served in the United States Navy. He came with the intention of helping his brother, Burt Nichols, as he built Brianhead ski resort. Once the resort was underway, Frank enrolled in The College of Southern Utah where he majored and graduated in accounting. He met and married local rancher Celestia Ashdown, and together they have created a successful real estate and land development business, raising 4 kids in the process.
Frank has been instrumental in bringing industry to Cedar City. He was an economic development ambassador to Pepcon (now WECCO), securing their relocation to Cedar City in the late 80’s---at a crucial time for Cedar City's then ailing economy. He has developed land for many uses including: residential, commercial, religious, schools, farms, and ranches. Frank is also passionate about service. He has donated many hours to the Cedar City Rotary Club, something that he has enjoyed for decades.
His love for Iron County runs very deep. Last year, he was privileged to help make the Iron County Fairground entry improvements come to fruition---a project that should benefit many generations. Frank is bursting with pride about his chosen homeland of Iron County and he appreciates the many friendships and associations he has made over the years.
